Mighty Dungeons Review

#MightyDungeons is an addictive and fun dungeon crawler that plays like a tabletop rpg (think D&D) on your Android and iOS devices. This is more of a board game simulator than video game but it is very well done with lots of features. Potions, spells, weapons, armor, trinkets and pets there is a lot going on here. The artwork is well done, decent enough sound fx and the devs continue to update it. This game is certainly a niche title but it scratches my fantasy itch.

A couple of features I really love is the option to play it turned based, perma-death on/off and the option to stay in a dungeon after I finished my quest so I can continue to explore/kill/loot. The difficulty can be adjusted on several levels…you have the standard difficulty setting but in extras panel you can turn mob group-up bonus on/off and even your hero choice affects how challenging the game will be. For example the Golem is a beast of a hero while the skeleton is very weak. You have settings that make mobs stronger or your hero faster when you first start a new game. I would like to have the ability to change those mid-game but that’s not a deal breaker. You can also run multiple games so you can have a game setup for casual play and also games that are increasingly difficult for a more challenging session.There are even some more modern touches like a shared bank space between your heroes, achievements and achievement points that can be used to upgrade your hero. You can even target specific parts of a mob for increased damage but lower hit chance. Lots of little things that when added up increase this game’s value and replayability.

The game is well tuned for mobile play with dungeons taking 5-10 minutes to complete. For me it’s a game that I can pickup while I’m waiting for an appointment or one I can dive into for an hour or more. It’s well worth the couple of bucks they are asking for it.

Microsoft came out trying to salvage the PR disaster that was their unveiling. Here is the breakdown of the latest rounds of “clarifications”…

No “persistent on” but only by a technicality as you have a 24 hour window before the console forces you to call home. MS wants you on a tight leash. So basically you might as well always be connected or the system is going to cut you off from your games.

You can share games BUT only with folks that have been on your friend’s list for 30 days AND you can only give it once. Sig Heil to our new Nazi Overlords…how merciful they are to allow sharing to continue under their watchful eye.

Next up Microsoft says they designed the One so that “game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers.” I love how they worded that “enable you”. Then they spew on about how THEY won’t be charging you a fee for used games. Translation: MS is trying to push the blame off solely onto publishers even though they built this into the system in the first place. to: MS and games publishers - we the consumer have a choice as well and it’s called buying power. There is a saying around these parts and it goes like this…”F you and the horse you rode in on.”

They are still stumbling around the Kinetics thing as well. All in all the clarifications are “all that bad press isn’t true yet it kind of still is.” I don’t go to work everyday to allow some numb nuts company to tell me what to do after I spend my hard earned cash to buy something. Fan boys can suck it. This is the kind of narcissistic fascism that kills products and companies. You’re a fool if you want MS camped out in your home dictating to you how and when you can use something you bought. We as gamers want to OWN the shit we bought and not be dictated too by some ass hat totalitarian dictatorship. This is a question of whether we as the consumer own things or do they…let’s vote with our dollars and brains. We need to send a clear message with our money.

Pretty cool! I like that Trigger Finger + Midi Fighter combo he’s using there. He’s not doing it here but that Midi Fighter has motion control built in so you can move it around to add another dimension to your sound control.
